Helen, I am a Griggs descendant. I hope we have a connection. Seems that some of my Griggs were in Richmond County, Va. I haven't really dug into this as I live in Al. and information from other states is hard to get here. A Robert Griggs & wife Ann were mentioned in the parish register of North Farnham there who may be the son of my Griggs Ancestor. I haven't seen the register. This info given to me. Robert's brother, Lee Griggs married a Eliza Skerlock. She was the daughter of a Thomas Scurlock of Richmond County, Va. Could this possibly be the same person?
