I don't know if this information is of any help but my grandmother was a Vachon. My father often spoke of the same thing,saying his great grandmother was an Abenakee princess. I assumed the Indian blood was on my grandfathers side but may have been wrong. My father's parents were Nazaire Poulin and Victoria (Marie Rose) Vachon dit Pomerleau from Beauce. Their names show on the 1901 census and by the 1911 census my grandfather remarried, another Vachon. I know this info is not much but may help you a bit
