Vadala Family from New York

A sad story

When I lived in New York (Brooklyn and later Staten Island), I recall meeting one (1) other Vadala (a Larry Vadala in S.I., NY). Later relocating to New Jersey, after 10 years met another Vadala. They are few & far between, and in many cases I believe more of we Vadala's are related through the blood lines, than we may realize. Who knows, maybe somewhere in time a "Great Great Great Grandfather" was multiplying the name VADALA fruitfully. Could be then, alot of Vadala's (males perpetuated the name) spread out & started families. That's how it's usually done.

I am trying to get a copy of my late father's birth certificate, so I can validate his father's (my grand-dad) name. My Dad (Victor-Vittorio Vadala) passed away last year (October 23). He was one of a dwindeling few of Pearl Harbour survivors. I recall him telling me, his dad (Angelo Vadala) died when he (my dad)was 6 months old. So I will nead to get Angelo's death certificate. Then I can move on to National Archives to see when he (Angelo) came over from Sicily.

My Dad's siblings are also dead now. Except for me and my children (Michael & Steven & Stacy) that is the end of the line at my end. Now I will eventually (God willing) find out "something" about this Angelo Vadala (from New York), who apparantly died in 1922-ish. The only other thing I know is that my Grandmother (Alfia) married Angelo, and later re-married after Angelo died (in 1922 ??). She married someone named De-Rosa.
When Alfia died I don't recall (as a little boy) but I believe Mr. DeRosa was already dead too.

As for VADALA, my Dad's siblings Jennifer(Jenny) and Joseph also had one child each (I believe one each). Jenny's son died young (he was murdered I was told). Joseph Vadala (my Dad's brother) was married and got divorced. He had a baby girl, and I learned that the girls mother was told that her daddy-Joseph-was dead (must have been a nasty divorce). Joseph wasn't dead though, and lived with us for many years. He was in the Merchant Marines, and died in South-Hampton, England (on board his ship)of a Heart Attack. We buried him with the Christmas presents we were going to give him on his return. Joseph died on his birthday (Dec 28)--Strange.

If ANYONE knows ANYTHING, please respond. In the meantime I will follow my course of action. Birth Certificates, Death Certificate & back to immigration records (again).

I was always so busy with my family & job and my own "thing", that I put this off. We all need to trace our roots. Good luck fellow Vadala's.

Grazie

Ron Vadala

Thanks

Ronald James Vadala
