Yes Arabic origins have been traced, however in "those" days the country lines weren't drawn the way they are today. The name does mean "from God", or "From the Valley of God", and similar variations (I am still researching). Many Vadala's (in those days) migrated to Sicily, Firenze, etc, initially.
