Dora,
The dit Jolicoeur and dit Vadeboncoeur names were aliases used by soldiers in the French Army during the 1650-1780 period of time. Each military company required that all the enlisted men have unique names, thus was born the "dit" name. I have found about 60 soldiers that used the dit Vadeboncoeur name in the military and a half dozen of them passed the name down in their families.
I researched this family a few years ago and never was able to tie them back to one of the soldiers. As time permits I revist the research. I will send you what I have via e-mail, if you can add to the data please e-mail me.
