"Acknowledgements:We want to thank friends and relatives for their interest in our work and the encouragement they gave us to put our material into book form.We are grateful to all those who have given us permissions, furnished dates and names, provided assistance in obtaining photographs, and answered our many letters! Our progress in research was somewhat guided by two people we would especially like to thank: Mrs. Tennie Vaden Winn and Mr. Robert C. Vaden. We are grateful to them for the encouragement they gave us when we had no experience nor confidence; and for the interest they took in our problems. For many things we are indebted to many people.Especially, we want to thank the Librarians and Archivists in Richmond, Bedford County, Dinwiddie County, James City County, all in Virginia; the Library and Archives in Nashville, and the Smith County Courthouse in Carthage, Tennessee.Their responses to requests in person or by mail were unfailingly prompt and gracious."
The inside cover first has the signature of my Maternal Grandmother Jewel Christine Vaden-Pfromm.She is mentioned in the book. Then under her signature is my Mother's: Darlene Annabelle Jelinek-Nicke.This book was given to my Mother for preservation and research by Victor Pfromm, son of Ralph "Butch" Pfromm.Uncle Butch was also one of Jewel Christine Vaden-Pfromm's sons.My Grandma Jewel Christine Vaden-Pfromm is mentioned on page 98 of this book. She was the daughter of Virgil Grant Vaden.Virgil was born 22 March 1890 in Elmwood, Smith County, Tennessee. He died on January 5, 1958.He was married to Dizie Johnson (1st Wife) and to Sadie Geary (2nd wife).Dizie Johnson was Jewel's Mother.Dizie Johnson is related to Frank & Jesse James.
