I am trying to find a connection between the Vadnais'/Vadenay's of Canada and the Vadnie's(my maiden name) of North Dakota. My father's name was Malcolm Vadnie son of Francis(Frank)Vadnie son of Louis Vadnie who was born in Quebec, Canada in Feb., 1836. Louis was the son of Michael James(born in France) and Ann Grace(Kelly) Vadnais. It is my understanding that Michael moved his family out of Canada to New Orleans, Louisiana and then migrated to Prairie de Chien, Wisconsin where my grandfather was born in Sept. 1873. We believe that the family name was changed sometime after they moved to the United States. Louis and my great grandmother, Rosalie Lamutt, (I am told was part chippewa or cree indian and was also born in Quebec)moved their family from Wisconsin to North Dakota.
We can trace this family tree back only to Michael, but do not know who his parents were. Could you possibly help us find this link. Does anyone have information on the Lamutt family lineage?
Shari(Vadnie)Breznay
