Continuing to work on the Jeremiah line I discovered furthermore that Ann or Anna Hampton, widow of Benjamin Moore could not have been the mother of Jeremiah Vail's children, but rather was their stepmother. She married Jeremiah in 1690-91 and was listed with him in the 1698 census at Southold, Long Island.
Who was Jeremiah's first wife? Does anybody have a clue?
I have seen Mary proposed as his first wife online but no sources are given. Perhaps that comes from an earlier census of Southold? His first wife must have died before 1690 and I believe she must have married him about 1663 as son John is said to have been born in 1664.
