My research of the Vaillant family is mostly the 17c in Pitres, Eure, Haute-Normandie..very close to Rouen. There are records of Vaillant from at last the mid 16th century. There was some kind of outbreak, disease, at the end of 1694, resulting in many deaths in the town. There was only one Vaillant identified. It is possible that some Vaillant's may have left at that time. Vaillant names from that period that I have are: Hector, Nicolas, Francoise, Jean,Marie, Catherine,Charles, Jacques, Jeanne, Clement, Marguerite, that I find in the Pitres records for the mid to late 17th century. Do any of the first names match? Do you have any idea where in France your Vaillant family was from. Vaillant are well distributed. Look at www.geneanet.org and enter VAILLANT. You will see where the surname appears in other genealogists records.

Good luck

Jean-Claude
