Elmer E. Vanatta Joins Son Earl B. in College
The Washington (DC) Times, 30 Jun 1907, reports that Elmer E. VANATTA, 46, of Vandalia MO, twice the age of his son, Earl B. VANATTA, became so interested in his son's letters home about his courses at the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri in Columbia, he enrolled himself. The elder VANATTA had been a student at the University 1883-84, but before finishing his courses he married a student from Stephens College in Columbia and moved back to Vandalia and bought a farm. After his son, Earl, finished high school there he enrolled at the U. of MO. His letters home led the elder VANATTA to sell his farm and move to Columbia and go back to college. The elder VANATTA has been elected a member of the honorary fraternity of the Agriculture Department and younger students value his experience and welcome his advice.
