VANBIBBER-WARTH-English-Fletcher-Vance???
Hi,
Ihave been told there is a connection to the VAN BIBBER family through either the WARTH/WORTH, English, Vance, Fletcher line! I CAN NOT find it YET!
Anyway, I was in WV Monday and Tuesday and since my friend and I had just ran away from home for a couple of days took someone's suggestion to go see NEW RIVER GORGE.Well, the Ranger there talked about the area, and things led to genealogy, of course!HE told me that a VANBIBBER had jumped off the bridge at Gauley to escape the Indians.Since we took RT 60 back toward Cincinnati, we came to Gauley Bridge. There was a falls next to the sign so I took pics. Then, we traveled about a half mile to an area where there was INFO, so I stopped and asked about VanBibber, the man worked for the town of Gauley Bridge, and had never heard the story.I walked next door to another shop that had a book about Gauley Bridge and there was a REUBEN VanBIBBER listed @ 1800.The little touristy area, had about three or four buildings, with POST OFFICE as one. IT was an original Post Office from VA @ 1820. Across the street was the NEW RIVER and had a bridge there.NOT sure which bridge VanBIbber jumped off from, but neat story and nice area! VERY CALM.The river at that point had falls, and I have no idea how it could have been navigational!I went around to the park and there was a boat dock, etc. and took more pics of the old mill and falls on the river.
ALL ofmy research I have been under the impression that The NEW RIVER was the Ohio! NO, it is one that goes from @ Ravenswood, WV ; Warth's Bottom (bought from Washington heirs); to below Beckley, WV where we were!
I bought a book on Trans-Alleganany (?sp) and have not even had time to get it out of the car yet!Car became ill upon return to the tune of @ 800 and then son movedthis weekend!
I am so tired I am not able to go back downstairs, but the book had MANY pages on VANBIBBERs. The WARTH connection was listed as WORTH ENGLISH Shipbuilders. IT is WARTH, but naturally have found it many ways! I even take WYRTH! One deed in BOurbon CO, Ky has it 3 ways in the one document!
I will be more than happy to share what info I have if you desire it on the VanBibbers and would appreciate ANY inkling of how the WArth and VAnBibbers are connected! A lady in Marietta, OH told me, but do not have the connection and can not find it! Know they are related to Chapman, as in Johnny Appleseed! Pretty neat!
This is the stuff I love, and the one jumping off the bridge was so neat!I will write the Ranger for more info if I am unable to dig it out!
Take care,
Peggy WARTH
