Hi Jill
Unfortunately I have nothing on Richard III,1812, the 4 researchers (me as one of them)have given him this III title only because of his father Richard Jr.b.1788, then his father Richard Sr b1747-50 (per us ohio census) so to keep these Richard's straight we put this III title after his name.I never looked up the 1850 census for these men in ILL. I looked at the copies of the 1860 ILL census that I have and didn't find him BUT that doesn't mean anything. As once we found Richard Jr and his son Henry, we didn't go any further in the census.I would suggest that you take a further look at the 1850 census in ILL to find your Francis Marion's father.
Richard Jr's son- Henry and Mary Rhodes Vanderhoof had a son named Richard Henry born about 1846 born ILL..
Mary Zimmerman Vanderhoof died in 1835 and is buried in Franklin,Stark(now Summitt),Ohio.
The only reason I did any research on Richard Jr., as I was researching Henry his son.For about 4 years, I got off track looking for my Henry and thought that Richard Jr.'s son Henry was my line...as it turned out my cousin and I were researching the wrong Henry and stopped researching that line. But I am interested in this line now that my mystery has been solved. If I find anything more on the "RICHARD" Vanderhoof lines I will keep you posted. Sorry I couldn't help any more than that. Sharon
