Vandevender/Vandeventer-Cacapon River, WV
I am not related to these people, just entering information. There is a little on these people in the book "Allegheny Passage, Churches and Fmilies, West MARVA District, Church of the Brethren, 1752-1990" by Emmert F. Bittinger.
"Included as a family in the discussion of the Cacapon River Settlements, the Vandevender family had significant interactions with the alleged Brethren families of the South Branch, including that of Rev. Valentine Power, the Hyers, the Coberleys, and the Buffenbergers (Puffenberger).William Vandevender had married Rachel, a daughter of Valentine Power, and Rev. Power had performed the ceremony on Mar. 13, 1796.Rev. Power also performed the ceremonies for Jacob Vandevender and Magdalene Buffenberger on Jan. 8, 1804 and of Peter Vandevender and Mary Buffenberger on Apr. 5, 1808.In addition, Cornelius Vandevender, Jr., was married to Elizabeth, a daughter of Peter and Susanna Hyer.she was a granddaughter of Leonard and Mary Haas Hyer."
"Denver Vandevender was called in 1921 as a minister in the Harman Congregation, but it is not known if Brethren membership was continuous from Cornelius down to recent times."
