Have you checked the census information of James Vandever of Marion Co., Indiana? He is listed as follows
1840 Census p. 234 Marion Co., Indiana Franklin TWP
James Vandever age 20-30, 1 wf age 15-20, and 1 wf under 5
1850 Census Marion Co., Indiana, Franklin Twp 25 July 1850 p. 350 DW 213 F 213
James Vandever wm age 33 born KY farmer r. e. 600
Sarahwf age 27KY
Mary J.wf age 12IN
Lucindawf age 10IN
William G.wm age 7IN
Samuel D.wm age 5IN
Margaret E.wf age 3IN
Stephen R.wm age 9/12IN
living with James Vandever as follows:
Mary Tuckerwf age 70KY
Albert R. Tucker wm age 7IN
This is the family of James Vandever b. 9 Jan 1819 Mercer Co., KY md. 2 Nov 1836 Johnson Co., Indiana to Sarah Ellen Tucker b. 22 Aug 1828 Henry Co., KY
The is further suggested by the fact that Mary Tucker age 70 b. Ky and Albert R. Tucker age 7 b. IN are living with James Vandever in 1850. Futhermore, Steven Tucker is living next door.
As you can see there is no Catherline Vandever listed in the 1850 Census in James and Sarah (Tucker) Vandever's household.
I located John R. Wright in the 1880 Census Meade Co., KY SD 2 ED 186 p. 21 DW 169 F 167 4 Jun 1880
as follows:

I know how frustrating it can be to find that the information that you have a thought to be correct turns out not to be. However, I would suggest to you that Catherine Vandevier who married J. H. Steel and then John R. Wright is probably not a member of James and Sarah (Tucker) Vandever's family for the following reason:
Looking at the 1840 Census there is only one child a female is indicated for James and Sarah (Tucker) Vandever. In 1850 the oldest child age 12 is called Mary J. on the census that takes care of the one female child listed in the 1840 Census for this family. Catherine(Cathrine) clearly states her birth as Oct, 1836 on the 1900 Census. The female children of James and Sarah Ellen (Tucker0 Vandever married as follows:
Mary Jane Vandever married Re. W. M. Benson
Lucinda md. J. H. Halfaker
Margaret E. md. Daniel Ross
Alice md. James De Mott.
All of the female children of James and Sarah Ellen (Tucker) Vandeverand who they married have been accounted for. I have not explanation of what the death certificate says as I have not seen it. However, at this time I would suggest that you look at other Vandever/Vandivier families in the Kentucky area for the parents of Catherine/Cathrine who md. John R. Wright. Sometimes even the information on the death certificate is not right. I have run into that situation more than oncein my research.
