Hello Dianne,
I do not have a copy of the pension papers for Thomas, but have seen reference to them in the Secretary of State Papers which are housed in the State Archives in Raleigh. I am a descendant of Shadrack Hargis, elder brother to your Thomas. Shadrack had served as captain of the militia for Caswell County during the Revolution, with several of his brothers serving under him at times. Shadrack requested and received a grant of 2100 acres in Tennessee; in his will, he devised 512 acres of that land to Thomas, with the remainder to be divided among Shadrack's sons. Thomas never took over the land and it was part of his estate; his son, Lawrence Van Hook Hargis purchased that land from the other heirs.Lawrence Van Hook never married, but had a very successful business career.
