Hi David,
I believe Henry's son listed as Edmond on the 1870 census was also known as Edward L. Van Ness. I think the correct name was Edward. According to Edward's death certificate, He was born 1-20-1864 and died 5-19-1933. A 1910 census lists Edward at 43 yoa indicating he was born in 1867.
Henry died when Edward was quite young. I've been told that Edward was raised by an unknown family who took him in. I'm unsure what happened to Edward's mother. I have been unable to find any documentation for Edward between the 1870 census and a marriage record of 1891.
Edward married Fredonia Hayden on 11-10-1891 in Graves County Kentucky. They had seven children one of which was my grandfather, Thomas Ernest Van Ness b.1-2-1903 d.5-25-1967.
Edward did in fact have a son named Henry Leo Van Ness b.2-20-1894 d.11-20-1983.
I have a little more information if wish.
I am interested on what you have discovered on Pierre Van Ness.
