Do you have a copy of John Vanstory sr. will? It was probated in 1831, so I have assumed he died about 1831 and the best I can do on his birth is about 1760. The first record I find on him is when he bought land in Guilford Co. NC in 1788. I have found a John VanStory in albany co NY in 1810 and a James Vanstory in Rensselaier co NY in 1820. And there are some possible spelling variations in NY earlier. But these are the only Vanstory's I find outsede of NC in the late 1700's to the early 1800"s Margaret Vanstory
