Hi Eldon, It looks like we may be (distant) cousins. I descend from William S. Varvel of Woodford County, KY who had a brother named Archibald. William and Archibald (along with other siblings and their mother) moved to Boone County, MO during the late 1820's when their father, Henry S. Varvel died.
Archibald Varvel married Sarah Ann Morris during the 1830's and they moved to Saline County, MO where they are listed in the census record from 1840. Evidently, Archibald died sometimeafter 1840 because Sarah remmaried a man named George Croce. I dont have any information about Archibald and Sarah's children, but Sarah's mother's name was Frances (Garland). Her father was Wilson Morris, from North Carolina.
There was another Archibald, Archibald Andrew Varvel, (son of William S. Varvel) who married Rebeccah Frances Morris (Sarah Ann's younger sister) and settled in Coffey County, KS. I descend from this Archibald (Archibald > Walter > Walter > Walter > me) and would love to share info with you about the early days of the Varvels in Kansas.
-Steve
