Follow up to LInda Maltzer Harris.I am the granddaughter of Ed Vasbinder of the large Vasbinder family you mentioned. My mother, Mary Rachel Vasbinder Gaither Louden is the only daughter of Ed & Effie Vasbinder. She knew all the Vasbinders you mentioned in the second paragraph of your article. She is 90 years old now and remembers some people vividly.
The parents of Ed and 9 other brothers and sisters were John Vasbinder and Rachel Cooper. My mom says that Bertha Tobin was her Uncle Lan (Philander ?) Vasbinder's daughter and Bertha is Mom's cousin.Carrie was also Uncle Lan's daughter, Mom's cousin. Marshall Vasbinder was Mom's Uncle Ott's son. Of her aunts my mom only knew Aunt Sid.Sida was deaf and mute.Mom learned sign language to talk to her.Mom says that Doc's name was Mathew. (Sp.)He had 2 daughters, one was named May.Mom doesn't remember the name of his other daughter.
The counsin Bertha that Mom knew (Lan's daughter)had 3 brothers, Ray, Charles and Hoy Vasbinder.
Ray married a Mary Layne so mom says there were two Mary Vasbinder's.Herself and this Mary. Thus mom always put the R. initial in her name to distinguish the two.
My grandfather Ed Vasbinder' father, John Vasbinder was taken to Madison county Indiana in 1838 from North Carolina by his parents. Those people was in Ohio where my grandfather's grandfather was born near the end of the Revoluntionary War according to the obituary we have from the Anderson paper at the time of Ed's father's death. It also mentions the Vasbinder farm near Anderson there was a familar landmark.
