Hi Elizabeth,

I am NOT related, just reading messages.

There were many reasons that people didn't go to war.

Ill health
Physical disabilities
Hearing/sight impairment
Age at the time of war, too young/too old
If you lived on a farm, you may have been the one chosen to be most suited to stay and run it with your parent/s.
If you were the youngest of say, 6 sons, you had to stay behind to help.
He may have resented war just like some people do these days.
His services may have been of more use in Culpepper than away at war.
He may have been involved in the manufacture of weapons for the war.
He may have been the one selected to ensure the family name was carried on.
His occupation.

Then again there could have been any other reason. These are just thoughts off of the top of my head.

Bye
Loren
