ELKHART - Peggy J. (Griffee) Vaughan, 82, of Elkhart, IN, passed away at 10:30 PM Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in Golden Living Center, Elkhart. She was born on March 10, 1926, in South Bend, IN, to David and Maude (Diltz) Griffee, and was a lifelong area resident. Her husband, Raphael Vaughan, preceded her in death on December 10. 1995. Mrs. Vaughan is survived by her daughter, Diana Long of Mishawaka; one son, Raymond (Linda) Vaughan of Lagrange; seven grandchildren, Craig (Stacey), Chris, Tiffany (Bill), Chad, Laura, Stacey and Shannon (Larry); eight great-grandchildren, Allissa, Tyler, Sidney, Travis, Vivian, Stewart, Mason and Garrett; two great-great-grandchildren, Madison and Shailene; and a sister, Verna Welty of South Bend. Three sisters, Vivan Laverty, Edna Archambeault and Carrie Gregory, and four brothers, Bill, Jay, Kenny and Robert Griffee, all preceded her in death. Mrs. Vaughan retired in 1986 following 17 years of service at the University of Notre Dame. She enjoyed oil painting, knitting, crocheting and crafts. Mrs. Vaughan was a member of Harris Prairie Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor of Northway Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, and one hour prior to services on Saturday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Peggy J. Vaughan may be made to Harris Prairie Church of Christ.
