More clues that Randal Vaughan of Greensville Co, VA/ Union County SC is the father of Hartwell Vaughan of Cherokee Co, AL. Below is a deed where Randal Vaughan sells his land, orchard and house in 1798. Hartwell's obit says he moved to Union Co, SC in 1798. His son Hartwell, Jr. names his first son Randle. And another link to Jeremiah Bentley. Also, curious minds want to know - How is Hartwell related to Christopher Lemuel Vaughn who moved to Marengo Co, AL? They served in Means 1st Regiment SC in the War of 1812, both lived in Union Co, SC. I obtained their War of 1812 pension claims but found no clues. Christopher married Ginsey Smith. Is she kin to the Frederick Smith in the deed below? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greensville Co, VA Deed Book 2 Page 476 This Indenture made this Tenth Day of April One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Eight between Randal Vaughan of Greensville County of the one part and Frederick Smith of the aforesaid County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Randal Vaughan for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Frederick Smith at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said R. Vaughan doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold released and confirmed unto the said F. Smith his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation Seventy Five Acres more or less bounded as follows viz. beginning at a corner pine on Jeremiah Bentley's line so running the said line of marked trees to a willow oak on the rock run thence up the said run the various water courses to Jerry Glover's line thence up the said line to Thomas Stephen's line a corner Oak thence along the said line to the said pine at the beginning the said land the said R. Vaughan bought of Thomas Pinner together with all woods underwood houses orchard all and singular the profits thereunto belonging and also the reversions remains and remainders rents rights titles interest claims and demands thereof whatsoever of him the said R. Vaughan of the said premises and to every part and parcel thereof to have and to hold the said tract of lands and premises thereof with all the appurtenances thereto belonging to the said Frederick Smith his heirs and assigns forever the said R. Vaughan his heirs executors and admtors doth covenant and grant to and with the said F. Smith by these presents and page 477 the said tract of land and premises and every part thereof against himself and his heirs and against every other person or persons whatsoever to the said F. Smith his heirs and assigns shall and will by these presents warrant and forever defend.
