Venus Parsons Vaughn, 101, of Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN, passed away on March 15, 2009. She passed peacefully at her home with her living family and caregivers by her side. Venus was born in Stickleyville, VA, on December 26, 1907. She was married to, and preceded in death by, Claude G. Vaughn for 73 years. She was a loving, caring, nurturing wife, mother, grand- mother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was the cornerstone of her family. She provided a healthy, loving, wholesome family environment with deep values and strong family principles. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Horse Creek Freewill Baptist Church in her earlier years. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Florence Martha Legg Parsons; one son, Ralph L. Vaughn; one daughter, Virginia A. Gott; daughter- in-law, Delores Estiline Vaughn; great-great-grandson, Jessee Crain, all of Kingsport, TN; four brothers, Roy, Coy, Len, and Walker Parsons; one sister, Vestea Parsons, all of Stickleyville, VA. Venus is survived by son, Hack Vaughn; daughters, M. Kathleen Brewer, Lucille F. Crawford; sons-in-law, Fred Brewer, Delbert Crawford, and Karl Gott; daughter-in-law, Mildred Vaughn; niece, Rowena Ringley; eight grandchildren, Lou Barber, Gail Davenport, Dinah Barber, Michael Vaughn, Dennis Crawford, Fredia Odham, and David Vaughn, all of Kingsport, TN, and Terry Vaughn, of Houston, TX; nine nieces and nine hephews; nineteen great-grandchildren; twenty-two great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great- great-grandchildren. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services followed with Reverend Wayne Baker officiating. Music was provided by Alvin Goins. Graveside services were held following the funeral at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Good Shepherd. Pallbearers were family members.
