Dear Lilia, I have a Ciro Velasco in my family. His parents were Francisco Velasco and Amada Garza. Their children were: Demetrio Velasco-Garza; Ciro Velasco-Garza; Salomon Velasco-Garza and Manuel Velasco-Garza. Demetrio Velasco was first married to Maria C. Rodriguez, whose grave and large headstone is in the cemetery in Congregacion Garza, also known as "El Charco Escondido" south of Reynosa Tamaulipas. Demetrio Velasco was the Registrar of the Civil Registry in 1900. I know this because Demetrio married my mother's sister, Rosa, after his first wife died. Demetrio Velasco married Rosa Gallardo-Moreno about 1889 and they had three children: Estela, [Estela married Oscar Suarez del Pino and had one daughter, Maria de Jesus Suarez del Pino-Gallardo].Hector [Hector never married and was murdered when he was a young man.],and Edelmiro. 9Edelmiro "Eddy" as most everyone knew him, never married either. He owned "Eddy's" a discotheque in Reynosa for many years and before that was the manager and operator of the nightclub called "La Cucaracha" in Reynosa.] Rosa Gallardo (Demetrio's second wife and my mother's sister) died in Reynosa, Tamaulipas in October of 1914, when Edelmiro was just an infant and his brother and sister were under the age of five.. Rosa Gallardo was the daughter of Francisco Gallardo-Sanchez and Gregoria Moreno-Alvarado (who was his second wife and my grandmother) Francisco Gallardo's parents were Anastacio Gallardo and Apolonia Sanchez. Gregoria Moreno-Alvarado's parents were Felipe Moreno and Juana Alvarado. Francisco Gallardo and Gregoria Moreno had five children: Angelberto, Rosa, Clemencia, Gregoria (my mother) and Cristina. [My grandfather Francisco Gallardo also had two sisters named Rosa and Clemencia - who married brothers by the last name of Longoria)] Rosa and Clemencia [his daughters] died eleven days apart at the ages of about 23-24 and 21-22. They left five children under the age of 5 years old. My mother was just 15 years old and had to quit school to help my grandmother raise those five children. [Eddy was also raised part-time by some Velasco family members... I remember he mentioned a woman named Altagracia Velasco, but I do not know whose child or wife she might have been.] Although I do not have any information on a Ciro Velasco-Rodriguez, I suspect he may be the son of Ciro Velasco-Garza or perhaps the son of Salomon or Manuel who named him after the brother. How many Ciro Velasco's can there be in Reynosa who would not be related to one of the above???? I remember my mother mentioning "mi hermano Ciro" "mi hermano Salomon" "mi hermano Manuel" because they were her brother-in-law's siblings. Please feel free to contact me. I live in California, but go to the "Valley" every couple of years around Thanksgiving. Regards, Bettie Lee Taylor Notify Administrator about this message?
