Arthur Venters, Arnold Perry
Hello, all. My name is Zane Perry, and I am a descendant of Arnold Perry (GGGG grandson). Arnold Perry was born ca. 1784 in North Carolina. Arnold had a sister named Betsy, as well as a couple of other brothers and sisters. His father, who family history says was an Abraham Perry, was killed in North Carolina by lightning during a thunderstorm. Arnold's mother remarried Arthur Venters, and the family moved to Kentucky. I have found the court house records in Jacksonville, Onslow Co., NC , where Arthur Venters was from. He owned much land there, and it seems that he was the son of Malachi Venters, who also had land in Pasquotank Co., NC, which is close to Bertie Co.. I have found where in 1799 in Onslow Co.Arthur Venters married Mary Robeson. This was obviously his second marriage, as Arthur Venters is listed on the 1790 Census in Onslow Co. as already having children. Two of those children from Arthur's first marriage, thatI know of, were John Venters (who married Nancy Crum in Floyd Co, KY) and Jesse Perry (who married in Pike Co, KY). I have found a land transaction in Bertie Co., NC dated 1787 between Abraham Perry and Mary Robeson. I believe that Mary Robeson was in fact her maiden name, and that she was the wife of Abraham. I also have a listing of Arthur Venters' Revolution War record, with the payment he received and the outfit he fought in. I believe that Abraham Perry and Arthur Venters were friends, and that when Abraham Perry died his widow, Mary Robeson, remarried Arthur. I also found a power of attorney document in the Onslow Co. Court records dated January 1806 where Arnold R. Perry appoints Arthur Venters his power of attorney. Just a short week later Arthur Venters was appointing another man his power of attorney. I believe that this 1806 happening was the family getting ready to depart for Floyd Co., KY. Arthur Venters is on the 1810 Census for Floyd Co., KY. In the 1820 Census, however, he is living with Arnold Perry. It should be pointed out that Arnold Perry owned property at the mouth of Cedar Creek where it flows into the Levisa Fork in Pike Co., KY -- this was Floyd Co. when Arthur Venters and Arnold Perry first moved there. There is also a town named Venters located very close to this location.
I believe that all KY Venters members should check out the Arthur Venters information contained in Onslow Co., NC, as well as any information in Bertie Co., NC. I am interested in collaborating with the Venters Family genealogists, since my family of Perrys is so closely related. I would like to find out where John and Nancy Venters went after 1843. At that time, they were selling their interest in a large portion of land in old Logan Co., VA (now Wayne Co., WV). This property is located at present day Perry Ridge, adjacent to Cabwaylingo State Park in southern Wayne Co., WV. This is the property where all the way down to my grandfather (and even present day) there are Perrys residing. All this land was purchased from John Venters, who purchased the land with his father-in-law, Adam Crum. Adam Crum was a Revolutionary War soldier from North Carolina, too. Crum, WV is named for him.
