Onslow Co., NC Venters Info
I am Zane D. Perry, the GGGG-grandson of Arnold R. Perry, born ca 1784 in Bertie Co., NC. Arnold R. Perry was the son of Abraham Perry of Bertie Co., NC and Mary Robinson of Bertie Co., NC. It is believed that Mary may have been the daughter of George Robinson, who died in Bertie Co. in the 1760s. Mary was deeded land by Abraham Perry in 1787 on Easternmost Swamp in Bertie Co., where she resided with her son Arnold, as well as her daughters Asenath “Sena” and Elizabeth “Betsy”. Abraham Perry and Mary Robinson were not married, although several children were parented by these two. Abraham Perry died in May 1788, and according to family stories he was struck by lightning and killed while out in the fields with his workers.
Arnold R. Perry’s mother, Mary Robinson, married Arthur Venters in Onslow Co., NC on January 15, 1799. Research in Onslow Co. reveals that many Bertie Co./Chowan Co. families had ties in Onslow Co., including the Robinsons, Easons, Pollocks, Waltons, Warrens, and others. The Venters family of Bertie Co., including Moses Venters, had ties in Onslow Co. as well. Arthur Venters and his family migrated from Onslow Co., NC to Floyd Co., Kentucky between 1806 and 1810. Other Floyd Co. families, including the Maynards, Baisdens, Robinsons, and others, were originally from Onslow County, NC.
