Saw your posting about Sgt Barnes. I'm a military researcher and had just started on this day, as John was from Baltimore, MD and I'm documenting all of the VN-KIA's from MD. Here's what I have so far: US Army and attached to Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. He died of wounds on 3/27/68 from multiple fragmentations. While I haven't verified it yet, it appears that Delta Co was brought in to support some other Units that were under heavy fire on the 26th. 3 men were killed from D/1/501 on the 27th, including John's platoon leader, a 2LT that he went to Nam with. John arrived in VN in mid-Dec/67, and had only been there 3 months.

If you are a relative or friend, can you contact me? While I have an early picture of him, I need some bio background on John before he joined for the MD Memorial. Pls email me at BruceSwander@hotmail.com.
