Approx 50 Marines of Co D, 1st Bn (not 1st Div), 4th Marine Rgmt made the initial contact with the Mayaguez. They were repulsed but were followed by the 1/9Mar. To my knowledge there was never a roster published of the 50 men from Co D. However, their DD-214's should reflect "Mayaguez Operation", but if not, their "Record of Service" in their 201 jacket (St Louis) will confirm membership in Co D/1/4 on the date of their participation. Be advised that there are approx 12 million Americans claiming to have served in Vietnam, whereas it is known that between 3,012,448 and 2,709,918 Americans actually served in 'Nam between 1954 and 1975. Most of the 3 million who served in Vietnam are listed in the Personnel Database (http://www.amervets.com/library.htm)
