Here is Bartholomew's bapt. record
transcribed by Donald A. Keefer, compiled by Arthur Kelly, Baptism Record Schenectady Reformed Church 1694-1811, Adam Vroman, Margrita Heemstraet - Batolomeus. Sponsors Jan Leuksen, Barber Heemstraet. December 22, 1700
Note that he was bpt in Schenectady, not Albany.
This Bartholomew's parents were Adam Hendrickse Vrooman and his third wife Grietje (Margriet) Takelse Heemstreet.
Adam was b 1649 in Leiden Netherlands and came with his father and siblings to the NEw World in 1664
With his five eldest children Hendrick Meesen Vrooman sailed from the Netherlands to the New World on 17th. April 1664 in De Eendracht.
Hendrick Bartholomeus and five children ages 15, 13, 11, 7 and 5 years old are on the passenger list of D'Eendracht (The Concord) arriving in New Amsterdam NY on 17 April 1664. You can see this 'list' on my homepage The OLIVE TREE GENEALOGY at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/

Hendrick settled first in Albany but In 1676 or 1677 Hendrick moved to Schenectady, 15 miles northwest of Albany, where he acquired a home on the north side of present day State Street. His land of 40 acres included the present day site of the New York Central Railroad passenger station in Schenectady. On Apr.4 1678 he pledged his house and barn "standing and lying in the south end of the village of Schenectady" as part of a note.On Jan 7 1679 he put in a written request for a minister, which was refused by the court as they did not want Dominie Schaets to serve Schenectady on Sundays, only weekdays.
In 1690 Hendrick, his son Bartholmew aged 30, his son Adam (your ancestor) with his wife Engeltie (Adam's first of three wives) and their six childre (Barent 11, Wouter 9, Peter 5, Christina 4, Hendrick 3 and a male infant) were living in Schenectady. Then came the Indian and French attack on Schenectady on the cold snowy evening of Saturday February 9, 1690.
On 9 Feb. 1690, in the total of 60 people killed at the Schenectady Massacre, were Hendrick, his son Bartholomew aka Bartol, and two black slaves who were killed and burned by Indians. His two remaining sons, Adam and Jan, were left to inherit his estate. Hendrick's grandsons Barent and Wouter were taken captive to Canada but later recovered. Hendrick's son Adam escaped with his three children Peter, Christina and Hendrick.
The report of the investigating party sent out from Albany states:
"Hend. Meese Vrooman and Bartholomeus Vrooman kild & burnt....Item 2 Negroes of Hend Meese ye same death....Engel the wife of Adam Vrooman shot & burnt, her childe the brains dashed out against ye wall...."
Here is Adam's will: Page 337.--In the name of God, Amen, the 12 day of September, 1729. I, ADAM VROOMAN, of the township of Schenectady, being weak of body. I leave to my eldest son, Barent Vrooman, £4, "good and lawful money, wherewith and other considerations I have given him in my life time, he is to rest and be contented, and I debar him from any further pretence and claim." I leave to my son, Hendrick Vrooman, £2; to my son Wouter Vrooman, £2; and to my sons, Timothy, Seth, and Jacob, each £2. And as to my son, Peter Vrooman, I do for lawful considerations, to myself best known, utterly exclude and debar him from being one of my heirs, both of my real and personal estate." As to my two daughters, Mariche and Eva, I leave it wholly to the discretion of my executors. I leave to my dearly beloved wife, Margareta Vrooman, all and singular my houses and lands, messuages and tenements in the county of Albany, and all my movable estate and household goods to her and her heirs, and she is to pay all debts "which are considerable" and also my funeral charges. And if anything should remain after her death it is my will that she should dispose of it by will to any of my children as she may think fit, and I make her executor.
Witnesses, James Banks Arent, A his D mark. G De Groof, Evert Wendell. Proved in Albany, before Myndert Schuyler, May 21, 1732.
Your Bartholomew married Catharina Sllingerland, the widow of Hendrick Van Slyke
As a note of interest, Adam's second wife was my ancestress, Grietje Ryckman widow of Jacques Cornelise Van Slyke. You might want to visit my page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/vslyke.htmhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/vslyke.htm for more info and/or the VAN SLYKE forum here on GenForum
