Hi Cal,
In hard copy of Revolutionary War Rolls of Vermont Soldiers I have the payroll data for John Ells who served in Capt. George Sexton's Co. of Volunteers belonging to Col. Ebenr Walbridge's Regiment, raised for the defence of the Frontiers the State of Vermont, Manchester, Dec. 20, 1781.

There are 5 pages for Waterman Ells [Eells]; there is not any notation that he was a Captain, and his payroll data appears to be that of a Private.

Have you checked http://www.ancestry.com or asked for a free Patriot Lookup? Please let me know offlist if you would like the ordering data from the Vermont National Guard for the 2 volumes I have here.

Happy searching,
J.
