at this link: http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/military/civil-war/index.html#pension I found this information: Pension Records: Paper copies of Civil War pension records can be requested online or requested by mail using an NATF Form 85 for each soldier from that page you can go to this page: https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe?SWECmd=Start&SWEHo=eservices.archives.gov At that page you can decide between a complete file and a "pension documents packet". I usually get the latter because it's so much less expensive (only $25)and sometimes I'm not sure if I have the correct soldier. You might want the complete package if you know you have the correct soldier and plenty of info for the archives to identify him. as of the last time I ordered I can tell you that they didn't charge anything for a file they couldn't locate. The pension packet will most likely have the date of death for the soldier which will make finding his death record and obit much easier for you. If you find the soldier's parents names or any family (siblings) do write back and I'll run the names through the databases I have access to. You can email my home address if you like. get my email address by clicking on my name where it is highlighted. Notify Administrator about this message?
