I am seeking the parents of Tirzah Knight, born about 1763 in CT and married to Simeon Williams born 1763 in Stonington CT (probably son of Samuel Williams and Lois Allyn) This Simeon born in 1763 has a brother named Adin and Tirzah and Simeon had a son named Adin. Simeon lived in Hartland, Windsor County in 1790 and 1800 then in Essex NY for 1810, Butler Ohio for 1820 and 1830 and Ripley IN for 1840. Samuel Williams and Lois Allyn are buried in the Center cemetery in Hartland. According to an old family letter, Tirzah's family was a prominent CT family and her father and brothers held "high judicial office." I can't turn up any good leads in CT although Tirzah Knight was born about 1763 in MA. But I am beginning to think that her father might have been Samuel Knight born 10 Feb 1731 in Killingly CT died 23 Jul 1804 in Brattleboro VT. He was a VT Supreme Court Justice (1789-1793) and a Windham County judge 1781-1801 and was briefly a Loyalist and had to leave Brattleboro due to his role in the Westminster Massacre of 1775. This was over a dispute between NY and VT on border issues. He later supported VT statehood. He married Mary Covill/Covell in 1757 while living in CT. Most documentation lists that they had 3 kids John, Horatio and Timothy. He was the son of Abigail Simonds and John Knight. Samuel's brother John had 2 daughters in Killingly, before 1752 and younger brother Timothy died by 1755. These reports don't mention a daughter Tirzah but the judicial description fits with the family letter. Does anyone know anything about the Samuel Knight family and whether Tirzah might have been his daughter? Notify Administrator about this message?
