Dailey from Castlemaine Ireland to Ludlow Vermont

Serendipity! John Dailey was reaching out – wanting to be found!

Someone posts a message on an Ireland Genealogy Forum regarding Vermont.

Mary, who is one of a small group of people who have been trying to piece together the people that lived in the Castlemaine area through various records – census, church, word of mouth, etc. reads the message and responds.

Peter, who lives in Vermont, occasionally checks the daily search feature on genforum using "vermont" as the search word and he looks for Irish Vermonters and saw the mention of Castlemaine which did not mean much to him except he saw that Mary was trying to find these lost tribes.

Later that afternoon, Peter was on his way to his daughter's soccer game and enroute realized he was going to be early and had some time to kill. He drove to Ludlow and stopped at the cemetery (Pleasant View Cemetery). He had time for a quick look and he saw a huge Celtic Cross. He sauntered over and what did he find?

John Dailey born Castlemaine
August 20, 1838 – May 2, 1911
and his wife
Mary Boyle, daughter of William and Hanora Sullivan Boyle
1841 – 1916, born Tralee

Mary has a habit of sending me copies of all her discoveries and e-mails, etc. because I am a retired police detective whose nickname is "tracker". I get up very early in the morning to find time to help try and find the descendants of those who lived in Castlemaine and the surrounding area. Mary and I are distant cousins through the Bartons.

I take the information Mary already has on this family that left Ireland about 1850 and the information from Peter and – ta da!

John and his family were found in numerous census records, Civil War records, in several books:

Genealogical and Family History of the State of Vermont (Google Book Result) published in 1903

Irish Famine Immigrants in the State of Vermont, Gravestone Inscriptions

Ludlow Village Windsor County 1883 – 1884

The research was exciting!

This is still in progress but I wanted to share the info in case someone recognized the family and might even be a descendant.
