Hi Kate,
There are 6 John KNIGHT soldiers listed; one was from Northern Vermont while another was from Central VT. I've transcribed the soldier's data from Central VT, which is closer to Hartland.

KNIGHT, John C. (or G?) Lieutenant, Waterbury [Washington County]. Volunteered to go to Plattsburgh, [NY], September 1814, and was at the battle, serving 11 days in Capt. George Atkins' Company, 4 Regt. (Peck's).

STATE OF VERMONT ROSTER OF SOLDIERS IN THE WAR OF 1812-14, Prepared and published under the direction of Herbert T. Johnson, The Adjutant General, 1933, page 258.

This soldier was not my ancestor.
