Ira White and Emily Buck

Jim: we still do not know Ira's parents, but maybe if you call the Chester town clerk, she can look at his death record to see if his parents were listed on it.

Ira P. White, b--1824, son of ---. He m. ---, Emily J. Buck (b. Hartland, Vt. 1824, dau. of Jonathan & Edna (Clement) Buck).
       They were living in West Windsor at the time of the 1850 census there. They were not listed in the 1870 census of Chester.
       Ira committed suicide at Chester, 25 July, 1879.
“He cut his own throat on Friday night of last week. He was confined in the lockup at the time he committed the deed. Rum did it.” Emily was living in Windham when the 1880 census was taken. She was 57 years old, living with her sons Elmer, Wilber, Foster, and a granddaugher, Evie W. White (age 4).
       Emily d. at Chester of chronic bronchitis & endocarditis, 2 Jan., 1901 (age 77).

Children (at least, born West Windsor):

1. Herbert O., b. West Windsor, 1843.
2. Herman J., b. 13 March, 1845
3. Josiah G., b. West Windsor, 1848.
4. Ira Jr., b. 1849
5. Elmer D., b. 18 June,1857. He m. in Chester, 25 Oct., 1882, Mary N. Wiggins of Grafton, Vt.
6. Wilbur L. b. 1859. In 1880 he was living with his mother in Windham, employed as a carpenter. He lived in Laconia, NH.
6. Foster J., b.- 1862 (living with his mother in Windham in 1880 census)
8. George R., b.-- Proctorsville, 12 Oct., 1877: “George R. White was brought before S. A. Craigue, Esq., on Friday last on a charge of stealing a cow from the pasture of Joseph Adams. His plea was ‘not guilty, but after hearing the evidence the court ordered him to recognize in the sum of $500 for his appearance at the county court on the 1st Tues. of Dec. next and he would not obey that order, and on Saturday he took a ride with Sheriff Thompson to Woodstock to board with Mr. Hewett until the sitting of the court when he expects to be promoted. He is a brother of Herbert O. White, who was found in the well on Gravelin’s premises and has been confined in jail twice before for petty offenses.”
