name WHITNEY - Amer. Indian in MA mid 1700's

Found this while searching my own family (also Indian) on the NEHGS site.

From the Congregational Church of West Yarmouth, MA comes the following Baptism record:

Joseph, son of Samll (prob. Samuel) & Mehetable WHITNEY (INDIANS), June 9, 1765 (their son was baptized on this date).

I thought it was incredible that the church actually noted them as Indians during that time period.
I do have Whitney's in my family from Maine and my family is also part of the Wabanaki nation from there, so who knows...this might be an early ancestor.

I hope this helps someone find their missing links.
