I am looking for any information about the family of my great great grandfather, Rudolph M. Weaver. He emigrated from Switzerland to Pennsylvania sometime between 1851 and 1860. When first in PA, he used the spelling Weber, but later adopted the anglicized spelling, Weaver. I have a copy of his Swiss Heimathschein (the equivalent of a passport) which gives the names of his father and mother - Johannes (or Johannesen - it appears twice, with two different spellings) Waber and Elisabeth Meier. Rudolf, as his name was originally written, was born 12 Nov 1831, and baptised at Kallnach on 27 Nov the same year. According to the document, Rudolf was a citizen of Niederried, Arberg, in the kanton of Bern. According to the 1860 PA census, Rudolph lived with an aunt and uncle named Barbara and Frederick Hoffman. I think Rudolph and the Hoffmans emigrated together, though I do not know for certain. Nor do I know how Fred and Barbara were Rudolph's uncle and aunt. As of now, this is all I know about Rudolph's origins. Would love to hear from you if you have anything to add or suggest. Thanks, Jeffrey Dreves
