I don't know if this will help you but our family 'Wachal'
has both spellings of the name on our tree. It seems that some of our relatives actually changed the spelling due to preference and so we now have Wachal and Wachel relatives. I am not sure about the specifics of the spellings but I will check with my dad. He is the one who was working on the tree and knows these things!
