James, John P, Arthur, and Francis M. Wachob passed away before 1870. Arthur and Francis died while serving for the Confederacy in the Civil War. John P., my ancestor, passed away ca. 1857 for his widow Elizabeth Syfrett Wachob was remarried to James Monroe Williams by 1858. I found all of the Wachob brothers in the 1850 Census in Jackson Co with the last name of Patterson because their mother Rebecca was remarried to an Archibald Patterson. My John P. Wachob was married at the time but living next door to them. I found all the brothers in the 1860 census minus John, but found his widow and children nevertheless. William and Joseph F. should be in the 1870 census but I have yet to find them. I found both of them in the 1880 census. Joseph Fleming Wachob came to Florida ca 1828 after living in South Carolina and Georgia. He was born in Ireland, came over here and met his wife Rebecca who was born in Pennsylvania. I found a marriage record of a Joseph F. Wachob and a Rebecca Thompson who married in 1820 in Maryland, so I'm thinking that Rebecca's maiden name was Thompson. Their first child William was born in Union Co, SC and the rest in Georgia and Florida. Joseph F. Wachob was a slave owner and after his death ca. 1840, a James Wachob, possibly his brother, took ownership of the estate (see 1840 census). In 1845 James wanted to sell one of the slaves to pay of some debts. The following year Rebecca Patterson, Joseph's widow, asked the court “to appoint commissioners to allot and set off to her, the one third part of said slaves and personal property as her dower.” Archibald and Rebecca Patterson are not found after the 1850 census from which I conclude that they passed away between 1850 to 1860. That is about all I know regarding this family. Feel free to e-mail me and share your knowledge of the family. Notify Administrator about this message?
