Waddell Family Genealogy Forum

Dave,
Your posting almost jumped off the screen at me! I think we are related although it is probably somewhat distant. The man you called Merida Waddell is my gg grandfather. I think "Merida" was a nickname as his given name is Meridith. His son, James Floyd (11/8/1881-6/28/1938 is my grandfather. James married Corda May Cline. Among their many children was my father, Charles M (1925-1987). You may be interested to know that one of Meridith's brothers ,William (born between 1852 and 1856) was murdered. The killer was never caught and the motive is unknown. Also of interest is that my father was one of five brothers who served during WW II and Korea and all came home without so much as a scratch. Yet two died within 2 months of each other, in 1956, in car accidents. Out of 10 children, only my uncle Lyle (1915) is still alive.
Could you help me clarify some of the information you posted? My father's cousin (I think that was the relationship) put together most of the information I have years ago. It has not been verified. What is the relationship between James Floyd Lowe and Louise (I have Louisa), Luther and Andrew? Do you have any dates for James and/or his daughter, Malinda? I knew that Meridith had a sister named Martha Ann but did not know that she married Louise (Louisa)'s brother, Andrew. The problem I'm having is that my records show the marriage of Malinda Lowe and Alfred Waddell, but this Alfred was a brother of Meridith and Martha Ann! This doesn't seem right as he would have been her uncle-in-law and probably much older.
Two things that keep you on your toes in this research. One is the repeated use of given names. The other is the way Kentucky revised its' counties over the years. What is now Carter Cty was once part of a bigger Elliot Cty. And before that it was something else. When it became a state there were four counties. Now it is over 100!
