James & Noel Waddell, NW NC 1830
Posted by: Arthur Waddell Date: July 15, 1999 at 17:22:34

I'm looking for the ancestors of James Waddell/Waddle (born about 1803 or 1804) who lived in Wilkes County, North Carolina around 1830. I believe his Dad was Noel Waddell/Waddle who is listed in the 1790 Surry County NC Census, and the 1800, 1810, 1820, and 1830 Wilkes County North Carolina
Census. According to the censuses, Noel was born between 1750 and 1760. James first or middle name may also have been William.

James married Frances Baugess on 19 March 1823 in Wilkes County, North Carolina with Claiborn Waddell being the bondsman. Listed in the 1830 Wilkes County, North Carolina Census with wife and 3 kids. They later moved to eastern Kentucky in the 1840's and their family history is easy to trace from there. Children were:

Meredith (born about 1824)
Jordan S. (born 13 Sep 1826)
Alfred G. (born 22 Oct 1828) (my line)
All three apparently were born in Wilkes Co. (or Surry Co.).

I'm pretty sure his dad was Noel Waddell/Waddle (wife unknown) who had 13
children, here are a few:

Grancer Charles (born 31 March 1782) married Elizabeth Griffith.

Claiborn (born abt. 1788) married Sarah Previtt.

Levi Abraham (born abt. 1796) married Rachel Wiles.

Arthur (born abt. 1798) married Lavina Wiles.

Clemmuel (born abt. 1801)

James (born abt. 1803) married Fanny Baugess on 19 March 1823. (my line)

John (born abt. 1805)

All were listed as being born in either Wilkes or Surry Counties in North Carolina. The James that was listed perfectly matches my James for date of birth and who and when he married.

I have come across several Noels in both NC and VA, but with no mention of wife and/or children which could verify the correct lineage.

If anyone has any additional information or documentation that could trace Noel's ancestors would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have my Waddell homepage at:

if you would like to see a more detailed look at my family history. Additionally, I have added general Waddell information such as surname origin, heraldry information, a list of famous Waddells, Waddell places &
things, etc. for your enjoyment.

Sincerely,

Arthur Waddell
