Hello Donna,

I'm a Waddle/Waddell - 2nd Grt Gr father Andrew - Grt Gr father William - Gr father Harry - father Duane. All lived at least some of their lives in the Madison/Jersey Co, IL area.

I've heard the story about the Gillham- Waddle marriage in Greene Co, IL also. Any marriage would have been much earlier.

I got on the DAR Members' database this afternoon.
Looked up #A044774 - Thomas Gillham and his son #A044779 - William Campbell Gillham's Rev War service. William has one original and 2 supplementals that refer to his daughter Sarah Gillham (Waddle):
"
The Said Lucinda Jarvis was the child of John Jarvis born on 24 - Jul - 1754 at Grafton Taylor Co VA died at Madison Co IL on 29 - Oct - 1823 and his ( 2nd ) wife Sarah Waddle born on 27 - Aug - 1778 at SC died at Troy Madison Co IL on 24 - Dec - 1858 married on 1 - Jan - 1809

7.The Said Sarah Waddle was the child of William Gillham born on - - 1750 at Pendleton SC died at Jersey Co IL on 27 - Oct - 1825 and his ( 1st ) wife Jane McDow born on - - at NC died at Jersey Co IL on - - 1828 married on - - "

The same Dar applicant also filed on John Jarvis:

" The Said Lucinda Jarvis was the child of John Jarvis born on 28 - Jul - 1754 at Grafton Taylor Co VA died at Troy Madison Co IL on 29 - Oct - 1823 and his ( 2nd ) wife Sarah Gillham Waddle born on 27 - Aug - 1778 at SC died at Troy Madison Co IL on 24 - Dec - 1858 married on 1 - Jan - 1809 "

I plan to order the 2 applications with supporting documents tomorrow. I'll post whatever news I receive.
It sometimes can take several months to get info back from them.

The DAR member's number is 683414 - about 5000 applications prior to mine (Sgt Richard Sears) so possibly was filed about 10-15 years ago. Hopefully DAR was requiring primary proof documents at that time. Some of the older applicattions are a little sketchy.
