Hello Staci,

My research has shown that Sarah was a daughter of John and Sarah Tate of Guilford County, NC; and that John Tate was a son of John Tate and one of his two wives, Lucy Waddy and Mary Waddy. The younger John Tate was of the age that he very likely married Sarah Street, daughter of Hannah Waddy and her husband, John Street. My reasons for this assumption are not documentary, but based upon the naming of the children of William Park and Sara Tate Swift. We know clearly that William Park had the Waddy heritage from his mother, Frances Waddy, who married William Swift, but no connections to the Street family, save for the marriage of her half-sister, Hannah, to John Street. Yet that was not a blood relationship to the Streets, only by marriage.

Yet the clearest clues are in the names of their children: names which are documented in the guardian papers of the children. Sarah Tate Swift went against the usual prejudices of her time, and was appointed guardian of her own children. I imagine that she was one of great will and determination, and argued favorably for that position in her children's lives; and she carried out her responsibilities with complete competency. The children were named: Susannah Waddy Swift(Hannah and Susannah were often used synonomously in that time); Mary "Polly" Street Swift; John Tait Swift; Frances Tait Swift(my ancestress); George Alexander Swift; Sally Street Swift; and Anthony W. Tate Swift.

One can readily understand the use of the given second name of Tate, but the twice-used, given, second name of Street makes a clear implication of the family attachment of Street to this family. Sarah Tate Swift was related to her husband through her paternal grandmother who bore the Waddy name; and also through her maternal grandmother, Hannah Waddy, who married John Street. Sarah "Sallie" Tate b abt 1747 married Joseph Street b 1737, brother to Sally Street who I feel strongly had married John Tate, brother of Sallie Tate Street. Brother to sister; sister to brother.

Hannah Waddy was a daughter of Anthony Waddy through his first marriage to Ann Park who was most likely sister to his second wife, Sarah Parke. This made Hannah half-sister to Frances Waddy Swift, my ancestress whose mother was Sarah Parke.

I hope that you find this interesting and informative.

Best regards,

John Fox
