I'm trying to find the parents of Sarah Wafford whose son James Tomlinson was born in Guilford County North Carolina in 1800.In 1785 the John Wafford who died in 1809 in Rockingham County bought 137 acres on the Haw River in Guilford Co., N.C. (Book D:14). He sold 74 acres of this land to Daniel Wafford in 1805 (Rockingham Co. Deeds). In 1788 he bought 62 acres on the waters of Troublesome Creek in Rockingham County (B:108) and sold it in 1793 (C:317). In 1789 he bought another 182 acres (B:220) and sold the land to his son John in 1798 (F:161). The 1790 census of Salisbury Rockingham County lists John Waford with one male over 16, 3 males under 16 and 6 females. I think this is the same John Waford who left a will in 1809. The 1790 census of District 96, Spartanburgh County South Carolina shows a John Wofford with 3 males over 16 and 3 females. In May 1808 a John Wofford of Spartanburg County left a will (Book A:37) naming his sons Isaac and William. He was the father of 9 other children: John, James, Hiram, Precilla, Dorcas, Elenor, Clary, Sarah and Synthia (See "The Homecoming" by Dorothy Witherspoon, page 28). I'm wondering if the John Wofford who was born about 1770 in Union Co. South Carolina isn't his son and not the son of John Wofford of Rockingham County North Carolina. I'm interested in what you have on John of Rockingham since I think my gg grandmother Sarah Wafford has to be related to this John. Can you help me solve this problem?
