Hello Richard,
My name is Jamie.I'm a McLean Researcher.
My research goal is to determine the origins of CORNELIUS McLEAN SR. (circa 1774-Sep. 12, 1836) of Washington, D.C.
My current theory is that he comes from the 18th century Staten Island, NY, McCleans/McLeans.
The Staten Island McLeans connect to the D.C. Waggamans through William McLean Cripps/Crips (1799-1876), s/o Elisha and Magdalen McLean Crips, of Staten Island.
Wm McL Cripps moved to D.C. around 1820 and practiced cabinet making and undertaking. He married Mary Ellen Spalding/Spaulding in 1824.One of their daughters, Ann Maria, married Dr. Daniel Boone Clarke in 1847.Another daughter married Thomas E. Waggaman.
Does your family book show the name of this daughter?
Do you know any family researchers that have gone back to the Cripps connection?
I am seeking documentation that Cornelius Sr. was the sibling of Magdalen McLean Crips or D.C. documentation that he was Wm McL Cripps' uncle.
Thank you,
~Jamie
