Benjamin's son John was NOT the John Wailes who died in 1789. He was b about 1770 and died in Montgomery county in 1732. Benjamin's widow Susannah sold 3 slaves to son John in 1792. (Maybe she would have also called a step-son "son", so it is not clear evidence that John was a son of the 2nd marriage However the other two children to whom she sold things, Catherine and Sarah, were among the youngest of Benjamin's children and so likely hers.)
The John Wailes who died young, lost at sea in 1799, was the son of another Benjamin, the one who married Sarah Howard.
