Edward J Walcott and Iris Walcott in Oakland CA
Hi All,
I'm looking for anybody that may know this family story and/or descendants of Edward J. Walcott b. 1861 in MA . and Regina VESCOVO (aka WILSON) b. 1863 in San Francisco CA died in 1891 in San Francisco CA. Edward and Regina married in 1881 and had one son also Edward John WALCOTT b. 1884 in S.F. CA, died in ORANGE (county) CA 1951 (On his death record it says his mother's maiden name was VEVEBO but this should have been VESCOVO.) Regina was my great-great-aunt.
The younger Edward John WALCOTT had a daughter Iris WALCOTT born 1904. I don't know who Iris' mother was. But Iris was living with her grandfather Walcott in 1906 when the earthquake struck. Somehow in the confusion of the aftermath of the earthquake and fire, Iris was kidnapped by her mother and hidden in Hollister CA until 1910 when she was found by her mother's brother. I found a newspaper article on this subject in the June 24 1910 Oakland Tribune. I also found 6 year-old Iris WALCOT in the 1910 Census living as a boarder in Hollister with a family named VINAGRE.
Edward, by 1910, had a second wife Rae Ethel. (I don't know her maiden name.) In 1920 the family (including Iris) is living in Oakland along with a 17 year-old ward named Jeanette MAITRE born in New York. In 1925 I found a Divorce notice filed June 18 1925, Rae E vs Edward J Walcott Jr. cruelty.
Does this wild story sound familiar to anybody? I would love to find more cousins. I would also love to talk and find out Iris' mother's name and just what was going on with this family. Maybe another side of the story?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Peggy Wilson
