Janine:
My great grandmother was a Szkudlarek.I am trying to get a maiden name for Teofila to show that they were indeed sisters. All I have to go on is the word of a great aunt, and I like to have proof to back up everything. The LDS library has a collection of microfilmed church records from Germany/Poland/Russia.If you can pinpoint an area, you may find something in the church records. The only trouble is the geography of Poland-For a few years some of it belonged to Germany, some to Russia, and some Poland. So
when you try to track church records, some of it will be written in German, some Polish, and cyrillic for the Russian. You will need some language dictionaries if you are not fluent in these languages.I am like yourself-my grandmother gave me most of the leads I had, but I didn't know what questions to even ask at the time. The things she did tell me, however, I wrote down, and it is amazing how the most insignificant items have turned out to be valuable. One of Teofila's daughters was named Hattie, but she was born here and became a nun.Catholic churches keep great records. One time I found a funeral director who dabbled in genealogy and he kept reords of entire families for everyone he embalmed!!!!!Thanks again for your help.I hope I can return the favor.
Linda
