How are you related to Virginia Waldo? Are you descended from her? If you're interested, Samuel Lovett Waldo was descended from Edward III:

Edward III
John of Gaunt (1340 - 1399)
Joan Beaufort (1379 - 1440)
John Neville
Joan Neville
William Gascoigne
Elizabeth Gascoigne
Anne Talboys
Arthur Dymoke
Edward Humphrey Dimmock
Thomas Dimmock (came to US in 1635)
Shubael Dimmock
Thankful Dimmock
Zaccheus Waldo
Zaccheus Waldo, Jr.
Samuel Lovett Waldo

I'm still trying to solidify the link from Edward Dimmock to Arthur Dymoke and Anne Talboys (sometimes spelled Talbois), although it does look fairly strong. It seems that Anne had 13 children, of which Arthur was the last, and some sources don't show him at all. But I haven't yet seen original birth records; those names were found mostly on the net. I have more information if you're interested. I haven't yet put together a real genealogy database (I've started puting things into Family Tree Maker), but I do have more names and dates.

That's exciting that you have a painting by Samuel Lovett Waldo. I have seen a self portrait by him in the New York Metropolitan Museum.
