DNA linking of 2 large Wallick Family lines.
I am a descendant of Johannes/Hans Michael Walck/Wallick who came to America on the ship Mary in 1732. He and Frederica Esther Schultz had 4 sons near York PA: Johanne b1736, Michael b1740, Christian b 1742, Phillip b 1745.Many of Michael and Phillips descendants moved on to Tuscarawas County, Ohio and Switzerland County, Indiana respectively in the early 1800s. There are still many Wallicks living today in the Dover/New Philadelphia area in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. This line of Wallicks can be found here:http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/person.aspx?pid=26135350&st=1http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/person.aspx?pid=26135350&st=1
The other area in the US where a large number of Wallicks still live is York, PA. I believe many of them are descendent of a Detrich (Dietrich?) Wallick also born in the York, PA area in 1743. Some of his offspring moved into the Tuscarawas County, Ohio area too but many of his offspring stayed in the York, PA area. His genealogy can be found here: http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/person.aspx?pid=84498515&st=1http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/person.aspx?pid=84498515&st=1
I have not been able to link these together yet but it seems plausible that Detrich and the 4 sons of Hans Michael Walck/Wallick were cousins. They were born very near each other, at about the same time, and with the same last name. Maybe Hans Michael came over from Germany with a brother, or cousin etc.– let’s call him X-Wallick.It is possible that X-Wallick was Detrich’s father and a brother or cousin to Hans and thus was a very close blood relative.
Today we have another tool to use to try to link lines together. I have submitted my DNA to the Ancestry.com DNA data base. I am looking for someone in Detrich Wallick’s line to do the same. That way we can see if the 2 lines are related. If we get a close match then even if we don’t know the names yet we’ll know that these 2 large Wallick lines are related. That would greatly expand the documented Wallick family size in the USA.
Is there any direct male relation to this line that would be willing to submit their DNA to the ancestry.com data base? I might be able to help with the cost.I had Ancestry.com run the male, Y-chromosome test so any direct male descendant will do – but we have to make sure we know the direct connection to Detrich. I think there is a strong possibility that we are related and I’d love to find out for sure.
Please let me know if you are interested and exactly where you are on the Detrich Wallick line. I’ll do the same for you for my Hans Michael Walck/Wallick line. If you want me to, I can send you a pdf of Detrich’s line to see if you or your direct ancestors are in it.
Looking forward to your replies…..
